UCR Registration 2027: Fees, Dates and Notices

Registration for the 2027 Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) year opens on October 1, 2026, and the fees go up. An FMCSA final rule effective that day raises them by about 20 percent on average over the fees set for 2025 and kept for 2026.

That is when the notices start: emails, letters and calls telling you to register now. Some are reminders from private filing services. Some pretend to be the government. Below are the official fee table, the one official portal, and a checker for the notice you received.

How much is UCR for 2027?

For 2027 the UCR fee per entity is $55 for 0-2 vehicles, $167 for 3-5, $333 for 6-20, $1,163 for 21-100, $5,548 for 101-1,000 and $54,165 for 1,001 or more. Brokers and leasing companies pay $55. You register on the official portal, ucr.gov, starting October 1, 2026, and the UCR Plan says the fee is due before January 1, 2027.

Official 2027 UCR fees

From the FMCSA final rule published September 1, 2026 (49 CFR 367.50) and the UCR Plan's fee page. The fee depends on how many commercial motor vehicles you own or operate.

  • 0-2 vehicles: $55 (2026: $46)
  • 3-5 vehicles: $167 (2026: $138)
  • 6-20 vehicles: $333 (2026: $276)
  • 21-100 vehicles: $1,163 (2026: $963)
  • 101-1,000 vehicles: $5,548 (2026: $4,592)
  • 1,001 or more vehicles: $54,165 (2026: $44,836)
  • Brokers and leasing companies: $55 (2026: $46)

Key dates

  • October 1, 2026: the 2027 registration portal opens, and the new fees take effect.
  • Before January 1, 2027: the UCR Plan says you must register and pay before January 1 of the registration year to keep operating legally.
  • After January 1: the fee is still due, and the UCR Plan says an unregistered operation may face state enforcement action.

The official portal, and everything else

There is one official place to register: the National Registration System at ucr.gov. The UCR Plan's own site is plan.ucr.gov, and its help line is 1-833-UCR-PLAN (1-833-827-7526).

  • A private filing service is legal. It charges the government fee plus its own service fee, so a 2-truck carrier quoted $129 is paying $55 to the government and the rest to the service.
  • A site with "ucr" or "dot" in its name that does not end in .gov is not the government, even if it uses seals, eagles or the word "official".
  • Search results for UCR show filing services next to the official portal. Read the address bar before you pay.

Signs a UCR notice is not from the UCR Plan

  • The amount does not match the official fee for your fleet size.
  • It threatens out-of-service orders or fines within hours or days.
  • It asks you to pay by phone, gift card, Zelle or a payment link in a text message.
  • The link or sender address is not ucr.gov.
  • It says you are "not on file" before registration has even opened.

Who has to register

The UCR Plan lists motor carriers (exempt and non-exempt), motor private carriers, freight forwarders, brokers and leasing companies. If you are not sure you are covered, use "Do I need to register?" on the official UCR site, or call 1-833-UCR-PLAN.

Example: a third-party UCR notice

UCR 2027 FINAL NOTICE: our records show your registration is not on file. Register your 2 trucks today for $129 at https://ucr-filing-service.example to avoid fines and out-of-service orders.

  • $129 is not an official UCR fee. For 0-2 vehicles the 2027 fee is $55.
  • The link is not ucr.gov, so this is a private service at best. It can be legal and still cost you more than double.

UCR 2027 FAQ

When does 2027 UCR registration open?

October 1, 2026. The UCR Plan says the 2027 registration portal opens that day through the National Registration System at ucr.gov.

How much is UCR for 2 trucks in 2027?

$55. The 0-2 vehicle bracket is $55 for 2027, up from $46 in 2026.

Why did UCR fees go up?

FMCSA published a final rule on September 1, 2026, effective October 1, 2026, adopting a fee increase the UCR Board recommended. FMCSA says it averages 20 percent, from $9 more in the smallest bracket to $9,329 more in the largest.

Is it a scam if a company charges more than the official fee?

Not necessarily. Filing services are legal and charge for their work. What matters is that they are clear that they are a private company, and that you know you can register yourself at ucr.gov for the government fee only.

What is the UCR deadline?

The UCR Plan says registration and payment are due before January 1 of the registration year. After that the fee is still due and states may take enforcement action.

Who do I call with UCR questions?

The UCR Plan's help line is 1-833-UCR-PLAN (1-833-827-7526).

Is ScamSpot part of FMCSA or the government?
